Gas safety
If you can smell gas, or think you have a gas leak, act straight away. Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 from outside the property. The line is free and open 24 hours a day, and they will make the supply safe.
Once the emergency service has made things safe, call AMW and our Gas Safe registered engineers can find and repair the fault with your gas appliance or pipework. For burst pipes and other plumbing emergencies, call us directly.

Yes. If you’re dealing with a burst pipe, a blockage, a boiler breakdown or a leak, call us and we’ll arrange someone as soon as we can. While you wait, turn off the water at the stopcock (often under the kitchen sink) and switch off electrics near any water. If you smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 first.
Open doors and windows, turn off the gas at the meter if you can, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 from outside. Don’t smoke, use naked flames, or switch lights and electrical appliances on or off. If anyone feels seriously unwell or has collapsed, call 999.
A radiator that’s warm at the bottom but cold at the top usually has trapped air, and bleeding it often solves the problem. Our guide shows you how to bleed a radiator. If radiators stay cold, heat unevenly or you have to bleed them often, there may be a problem with the pump, valves or system, and we can take a look.
Common signs include a humming, grinding or whirring noise, radiators that are slow to warm up, heating that’s patchy around the house, or hot water and heating that stop working while the boiler still fires. We can test the pump, check it’s set up correctly and replace it if it’s worn out.
If your hot water is limited or your water pressure is low, an electric shower is usually the better choice because it heats water on demand. If you have plenty of hot water and good pressure, for example from an unvented hot water cylinder, a mixer shower often gives a stronger flow. We’ll check your system and recommend the right one.
