Boiler and insulated heating pipework in a plant room

LPG boiler service, Bristol

Keep your LPG boiler in peak condition.

Annual servicing is the best way to keep your LPG boiler working at its best and avoid serious, long-term breakdowns. Our knowledgeable, experienced engineers carry out a range of tests and checks to make sure your boiler is running as safely and efficiently as possible.

LPG boilers run on liquefied petroleum gas stored in a tank or cylinders, usually in homes off the mains gas network. LPG burns at different pressures from natural gas, so the boiler is set up differently, and the engineer who services it must be Gas Safe registered for LPG work. A yearly service can extend your boiler’s lifespan, reduce the likelihood of faults and is often a requirement of its guarantee or warranty.

Working throughout Bristol and the surrounding areas, including the rural villages where LPG is common, we also provide boiler repairs, LPG boiler installations and boiler servicing for landlords.

What’s included

What does an LPG boiler service include?

Our engineer removes the boiler casing and works through a set of LPG-specific safety and efficiency checks, from the burner to the supply. Here’s what an LPG boiler service covers.

Terminals and pipes

We inspect the flue terminal and the boiler’s pipework, making sure combustion products are leaving your home safely and nothing is blocked, damaged or leaking.

Safety devices

We review the boiler’s safety devices and equipment, so it will shut down safely if something goes wrong.

LPG heat input and pressure

We check the LPG heat input and gas pressure, and reset the operating pressure where needed, so the burner runs as it was designed to on LPG.

Combustion fan and ignition

We check the combustion fan and inspect the ignition system, two common causes of lockouts and failed starts.

Water and LPG seals

We check the water and LPG seals inside the boiler for signs of wear or leaks, and replace them where required.

LPG supply and controls

We check your LPG storage tank or cylinders and the supply to the boiler, then review your controls to make sure your heating responds as it should.

LPG safety

LPG behaves differently from mains gas.

LPG is heavier than air. If it leaks, it sinks and collects at low level, in cellars, drains and low-lying spaces, rather than rising and dispersing like natural gas. That’s why the boiler, its seals and the supply pipework need checking every year. Keep a working carbon monoxide alarm near the boiler too, and call us if you notice anything unusual.

[VERIFY SAFETY LINE WITH AMW — LPG leak advice is new copy (not on the live page). Also no 24/7 or same-day promise is made until AMW confirms]

Call a Gas Safe engineer if you notice:

Smell LPG? Turn off the supply at the tank or cylinder valve if it’s safe to do so. Don’t use electrical switches or naked flames. Open doors and windows, leave the property and don’t go into cellars or other low areas where LPG can collect. Call your LPG supplier’s emergency number, usually shown on the tank, cylinder or your bill. The National Gas Emergency Service (0800 111 999) covers mains gas.

On the day

What happens during your LPG boiler service.

01

Get ready

Clear the area around the boiler so we can remove the casing and reach the pipework. If you’re confident doing so, switch the boiler off about 30 minutes before we arrive so it can cool.

02

Inspect and clean

We remove the boiler casing, inspect and clean the components inside, and check the terminals, pipework and seals.

03

Test the LPG side

We check the heat input, gas pressure and operating pressure, the fan and ignition, and the LPG tank or cylinders and supply.

04

Report and advise

Most LPG services take around an hour. If we find a fault, we show you, explain your options and can quote for the repair there and then.

Why book a service

Why book an LPG boiler service?

Off-grid heating deserves the same care as mains gas. Here’s what an annual LPG boiler service does for you, from a local team based in Patchway.

Protect your warranty

You’ll often need an annual service to keep your boiler’s warranty or guarantee valid and up to date.

Make your LPG go further

A boiler that’s set up and running efficiently uses less fuel, so each tank or cylinder delivery lasts longer and your energy bills stay down.

Keep your home safe

Our trained engineers can detect potentially dangerous issues, including carbon monoxide leaks and worn LPG seals, before they put you at risk.

Protect your insurance

Many home insurance policies require an annual boiler service to keep your cover valid.

Letting an off-grid property?

Landlords’ gas safety duties apply to LPG appliances as well as mains gas, so LPG boilers need an annual gas safety check. We can service the boiler and carry out the check in one visit, and issue your Gas Safety Certificate (CP12).

We strongly advise having your LPG boiler serviced at least once a year to keep it running properly, efficiently and safely. During the annual service our Gas Safe registered engineers carry out thorough inspections, finding and fixing faults before they turn into long-term problems. An annual service also keeps any boiler guarantee or warranty you have in place valid.

Most of the time, an LPG boiler service takes around 60 minutes. The engineer works through a series of safety checks and measurements, which includes removing the boiler casing to inspect and clean the components inside, and inspecting the pipework and your LPG storage tank or cylinders. If something needs more time, we’ll explain before going further.

A few simple preparations help. Make sure the area around your boiler is clear, so the engineer can inspect the boiler and pipework and remove the casing. If you’re confident doing so, switch the boiler off around 30 minutes before your appointment so the key components can cool. It also helps if we can reach your LPG tank or cylinders easily.

Only a Gas Safe registered engineer who is qualified to work on LPG. Gas Safe registration covers specific types of work, and an engineer’s ID card lists what they’re qualified to do, so it’s worth checking it shows LPG. All AMW engineers who work on LPG boilers are Gas Safe registered, and we are Worcester Bosch accredited partners.

We check the LPG supply to your boiler as part of the service, including the storage tank or cylinders and the pipework. Most bulk tanks are owned and maintained by the LPG supplier, so if we spot a problem with the tank itself, we’ll tell you and advise you to contact them.

If our engineer finds a fault, they’ll show you the problem, explain what it is and talk you through your options for repairing or replacing the parts involved. They can give you a quote for any repair work there and then, on the same day. Find out more about our boiler repairs.
