Smell gas? Don’t use electrical switches or naked flames. Open windows, turn off the gas at the meter if you can, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
How a service works

Tell us your boiler type and when suits you. Before the visit, clear the space around the boiler so the engineer can reach it and the pipework.

Our engineer removes the boiler casing and inspects the components inside, checking for wear, leaks and anything that could become a fault.

We clean the parts that need it and work through the safety and efficiency tests for your fuel type, from flue gases to pressures and electrics.

We fire the boiler up, check it’s running as it should and tell you what we found. If there’s a fault, we’ll quote for the repair on the same day.

We strongly advise having your boiler serviced at least once a year so it runs properly, efficiently and safely. During the annual service our fully qualified engineers carry out thorough inspections, identifying and fixing potential faults before they escalate into long-term issues. Most of the time, a boiler service takes around 30 to 40 minutes. The engineer works through a series of safety checks and measures to make sure everything is working as it should, including removing the boiler casing to inspect and clean the components inside. Oil boilers usually take longer because of the extra cleaning and dip tests; see our oil boiler service page.
A few simple preparations help. Depending on where your boiler is, make sure the area around it is clear so your engineer can easily inspect and check both the boiler and the pipework, and remove the boiler casing. If you’re confident doing so, you can also switch off your boiler around 30 minutes before your appointment, so the key components can cool down ahead of time.
