New Worcester Bosch boiler fitted in a kitchen cupboard by AMW Heating

Annual boiler servicing, Bristol

Know what you’re paying for before we arrive.

Ask three companies what a boiler service includes and you can get three different answers. Some visits are little more than a glance at the flame and a sticker on the case. Ours follow a set checklist for your fuel type, so you know what’s been tested, cleaned and measured, and what we found.

Bristol’s housing keeps us on our toes. A combi squeezed into a kitchen cupboard in a Bishopston terrace, a system boiler in a Clifton flat conversion, a regular boiler with a cylinder in a family home in Stoke Gifford: each gets the same thorough service. We look after gas, oil and LPG boilers, and you don’t need a maintenance contract to book a one-off service.

[VERIFY WITH AMW — one-off services are available with no contract (targets “one off boiler service”, 390/mo), and that the oil and LPG checklists below match what engineers actually do]

What’s included

What a full boiler service includes.

Every service starts with the casing off. From there, the checks depend on what your boiler burns. Here’s the full list, grouped so you can see what applies to you.

Gas: combustion and flue

A flue gas analysis confirms the boiler is burning cleanly and that fumes are leaving the property safely. We also check the flue route and terminal outside.

Gas: pressures and electrics

We test the gas pressure and the fan pressure, check the electrical connections and test the ignition probe, replacing it if it has worn.

Inside the boiler

The main heat exchanger is cleaned, with new seals fitted where needed, and the condensate trap and filter are cleaned out so the boiler drains and breathes properly.

System water and vessel

We check the expansion vessel pressure and test the pH of the water in your heating system, adding inhibitor if it needs it. A wider central heating check is available on request.

Oil boilers

On top of the burner checks, we dip test the oil tank and oil line for water, clean or replace the nozzle, and clean the electrodes and photocell. More on our oil boiler service.

LPG boilers

We check the LPG heat input and operating pressure, the seals, fan and ignition, and the supply from your tank or cylinders. More on our LPG boiler service.

The gas checklist

Eleven checks on every gas boiler service.

This is the list our engineers work through on a gas boiler, the most common type in Bristol homes. If something on it fails, we show you what we found and quote for the repair before doing anything more.

A gas boiler service covers:

Smell gas? Don’t use electrical switches or naked flames. Open windows, turn off the gas at the meter if you can, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.

Booking in Bristol

From booking to service record.

01

Tell us the basics

Your postcode, the fuel your boiler runs on and, if you know it, the make and model. That tells us which checklist to bring.

02

Make it reachable

Clear the cupboard, loft hatch or corner the boiler lives in, so the engineer can take the casing off and follow the pipework.

03

Work the list

Our engineer cleans, tests and measures everything on the checklist for your boiler, then fires it up and checks it runs as it should.

04

Record and explain

We fill in the service record and talk you through the results, including anything worth keeping an eye on before next year.

Why AMW

Why Bristol households book with AMW.

We’re a Bristol team, based in Patchway on the north side of the city, qualified on every fuel a Bristol boiler is likely to run on.

Every fuel covered

Gas, oil and LPG from one company, so mixed streets and edge-of-city homes don’t need two firms.

Nothing skipped

The same checklist on every visit, whether the boiler is two years old or twenty.

Straight answers

If a part is on its way out, we tell you and price the fix. No pressure to replace a boiler that still has life in it.

Clean and careful

Dust sheets down, tidy work and no mess left in your kitchen or hallway.

Terraces, flats and family homes.

Where a boiler sits changes how we reach it, not what we check. Loft boilers in terraced houses need a safe way up, flats may have a flue running through a shared wall, and older family homes often have a cylinder and header tanks to look at too. Tell us where yours is when you book.

All of it. We’re based in Patchway, so north Bristol is on our doorstep, and we regularly service boilers in Clifton, Redland, Bishopston, Southville, Bedminster, Fishponds and Kingswood, as well as Bradley Stoke and Filton. If you’re unsure about your street, just ask.

Yes. You don’t need a plan or contract. Book a single annual service whenever it’s due, and the engineer works through exactly the same checklist as on any other visit.

Yes. The safety principles are the same, but the checks differ. Oil boilers get dip tests on the tank and oil line and a clean of the nozzle, electrodes and photocell; LPG boilers get heat input, pressure and supply checks. See our oil and LPG service pages for the details.

Not usually. We just need a safe way into the loft, a boarded area round the boiler and some light. Let us know when you book so the engineer comes prepared.

Yes. We service boilers in flats and conversions all over Bristol. If you rent, check with your landlord first, as they’re normally responsible for the boiler and its annual gas safety check.

We stop, show you what we’ve found and explain your options. We’ll give you a price for the repair before any extra work is done. See our boiler repairs page.

Yes. We can service the boiler and carry out the annual gas safety check in the same visit, and issue the certificate. More on boiler servicing for landlords.

Local to you

Boiler servicing across Bristol, from Patchway to Bedminster.

We’re based in Patchway, just off the M5 and M4 junctions on the city’s northern edge, so every part of Bristol is within easy reach.

Bristol’s homes cover almost every era. Victorian and Edwardian terraces fill Bishopston, Totterdown and Southville; Clifton and Redland have large Georgian and Victorian houses, many split into flats; and the post-war and newer estates in places like Fishponds, Bradley Stoke and Stoke Gifford are mostly family homes with combi or system boilers.

Most of the city is on mains gas, but some homes on the edges of Bristol and in the villages beyond run on oil or LPG. Because we’re qualified on all three, one Bristol team can keep the whole street serviced, whatever the boiler burns.

[VERIFY WITH AMW — local copy is new: Bristol housing mix by district, oil/LPG homes on the city edges and the places/postcodes list. Confirm AMW covers every place listed. SEO: this page and the hub /boiler-servicing/ both lead on “boiler servicing Bristol”; decide which one owns it]
