Combi boilers, Bristol

Professional combi boiler installers.

A combi boiler gives you both heating and hot water directly from the mains supply. There’s no cold water tank in the loft and no hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard: the boiler heats water on demand, so you only use energy when you need heating or hot water.

Because they save space and run efficiently, combi boilers are especially popular in flats, urban homes and houses with one or two bathrooms. Whether you’re upgrading an old boiler or switching from a tank-fed system, our Gas Safe registered engineers make the installation smooth and professional.

As Worcester Bosch specialists, we offer expert advice, extended guarantees on selected boilers and reliable aftercare. Start with our online boiler quote, or see all our boiler installations.

Why choose a combi

The benefits of a combi boiler.

For the right home, a combi is the simplest, most compact way to heat your home and your water. Here’s why so many people choose one.

Space saving

Combi boilers are compact and ideal for small to medium-sized homes. Many models even fit inside a standard kitchen cupboard, and there’s no tank or cylinder to find room for.

Instant hot water

Unlike conventional boilers that store hot water in a tank, a combi heats water on demand, so there’s no waiting for a cylinder to warm up and no running out of stored hot water.

High efficiency

Modern combi boilers are highly efficient, and most are A-rated for energy. Heating water only when you need it can mean lower bills and a smaller carbon footprint.

Simpler installation

With no water tanks and less pipework, a combi installation is generally quicker and more straightforward than fitting a system or regular boiler.

Less maintenance

Fewer parts and no external tanks mean less that can go wrong over the long term. An annual service keeps it that way.

Mains water pressure

Hot water arrives at mains pressure, giving a stronger flow at taps and showers, especially if your home already has good incoming water pressure.

Is a combi right for you?

Do I need a combi boiler?

A combi could be exactly what you need, but it depends on your home and how much hot water you use. Because a combi heats water as it flows, it can struggle when several showers and taps run at once. In homes with more than two bathrooms, or where mains pressure is weak, a system boiler with a hot water cylinder is often the better choice.

Not sure? We’re happy to talk it through and recommend the best system for your home. See our hot water cylinders if a combi isn’t the answer.

A combi is likely right if:

Always use a registered engineer. By law, a gas combi boiler must be installed by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Ask to see your engineer’s Gas Safe ID card when they arrive.

How a combi installation works

From survey to switch-on.

01

Survey

We look at your home, your hot water use and your mains water pressure, and confirm a combi is the right fit before recommending a model and size.

02

Quote

You get a clear quote setting out the boiler, the work involved and the costs, so you know exactly what you’re agreeing to.

03

Installation

We remove your old boiler and, if you’re converting, any redundant tanks and cylinder, then connect the combi to the mains water supply and your central heating.

04

Test and handover

We test the whole system, make sure it’s running safely and efficiently, and show you how to use it. What to expect from a boiler installation.

Questions

A combi works in two modes. For central heating, the burner heats the primary heat exchanger, which warms water in a closed loop that circulates through your radiators until the room reaches temperature. When you turn on a hot tap, a flow sensor detects it and the boiler switches to hot water mode, heating cold mains water through a secondary heat exchanger so it flows straight to your tap or shower.

Some higher-output models can manage moderate use across more than one bathroom, as long as your mains water pressure is good. In homes with more than two bathrooms, or where several showers often run at the same time, a system boiler with a hot water cylinder is usually better suited. We’ll give you an honest recommendation at your survey.

A good combi boiler should last 10 to 15 years with regular servicing. Signs yours is nearing the end include frequent breakdowns, rising bills and inconsistent hot water. Read the signs it’s time to replace your old boiler.

Yes, and it’s one of the most common upgrades we carry out. A conversion takes longer than a like-for-like swap, because we remove the old tanks and cylinder and alter the pipework. We’ll check your mains water pressure first and include everything in your quote. What to expect from a boiler installation.

Yes, some combi models are compatible with solar thermal systems for additional energy savings. If you have solar thermal panels or are planning to fit them, tell us at your survey and we’ll recommend a compatible boiler.

It depends on the model and output you choose, where the boiler is going and whether you’re replacing like for like or converting from another system. Rather than quote a figure over the phone, we’ll give you a clear, detailed quote after a survey. Make a start with our online boiler quote.

Like a car, your boiler needs regular maintenance, and an annual service is usually required to keep the manufacturer’s guarantee valid. Our engineer inspects the boiler for wear or leaks, opens the casing to check the heat exchanger, burner and seals, checks the flue, tests the gas pressure, cleans components and carries out safety checks.
