Oil boiler service, Bristol

Annual oil boiler servicing from OFTEC registered engineers.

Annual boiler servicing is an essential way to keep your oil boiler in good condition and help avoid serious breakdowns. Our OFTEC registered engineers complete a range of tests and clean the key parts of the boiler and oil burner, so it keeps working as efficiently as possible.

Oil boilers need regular maintenance to protect their performance, and a yearly service is usually a condition of keeping the boiler’s guarantee or warranty valid. Besides protecting your guarantee, the service checks whether any water has got into your oil tank and includes cleaning components that make a real difference to your boiler’s year-round reliability.

Our knowledgeable, experienced heating engineers inspect, maintain, clean and, where needed, replace components to keep your oil boiler safe and in good working order. We work throughout Bristol and the surrounding areas, and we also provide boiler repairs, oil boiler installations and boiler servicing for landlords.

What’s included

What does an oil boiler service include?

Maintaining an oil boiler is crucial to how well it performs. During an oil boiler service, our engineers work through these checks and tests.

Oil tank dip test

We dip test the oil tank to find out whether any water has got in. Water in the tank can carry debris and sludge through to the boiler and cause blockages.

Oil line dip test

We test the oil supply line for impurities and make sure there’s no water in it, since water in the line is prone to freezing and cutting off your heating in winter.

Nozzle check and clean

A clogged nozzle can hold back your boiler’s performance. We clean or replace the nozzle as needed, to prevent problems from congealed oil later on.

Electrodes and photocell

We meticulously clean the electrodes and photocell to remove soot build-up, which can cause erratic operation or stop the oil burner igniting at all.

Trap cleaned out

We clean out the trap, which significantly improves the reliability of your oil boiler right through the year.

Electrical connections

We check the boiler’s electrical connections are sound and safe, then fire the boiler up and make sure everything is working as it should.

Getting ready for your service

Book your oil boiler service before winter.

The best time to service an oil boiler is before the cold weather arrives, so any fault is caught while you can still do without the heating. When your service is booked, a few simple steps help the visit run smoothly.

[VERIFY SAFETY LINE WITH AMW — oil-leak / CO advice and Environment Agency hotline are new copy (not on the live page)]

Before the engineer arrives:

Oil leak or fumes? Turn the boiler off, keep naked flames away and stop oil reaching drains if you can. For a spill that could reach a watercourse, call the Environment Agency incident hotline on 0800 80 70 60. If your carbon monoxide alarm sounds, get everyone outside and call for help.

We strongly advise servicing your oil boiler at least once a year to keep it running properly, efficiently and safely. During the annual service our OFTEC registered engineers carry out thorough inspections, finding and fixing small faults before they turn into long-term problems. A yearly service also keeps any boiler guarantee or warranty valid. For the full list of checks, see what an oil boiler service includes above, or contact us.

Most oil boiler services take between one and two hours. The engineer works through a series of safety checks, tests and cleaning to make sure everything is working as it should. That includes removing the boiler casing to inspect and clean the burner and components inside, and dip testing the oil tank and oil line. If we find something that needs more time, we’ll explain before going further.

A few simple preparations help. Make sure the area around your boiler is clear, so the engineer can easily inspect the boiler and pipework and remove the boiler casing. If you’re confident doing so, switch the boiler off about 30 minutes before your appointment so the key components can cool down. It also helps if we can get to your oil tank easily for the dip test.

Yes. All AMW engineers are OFTEC registered, the competent person scheme for oil heating, so they’re qualified to service, repair and install oil-fired boilers. We’re also Worcester Bosch accredited partners, and our engineers are Gas Safe registered for gas and LPG boilers, so we can look after every fuel type if you move or switch heating systems.

If our engineer finds a fault or issue, they’ll show you the problem, explain what it is and talk you through your options for repairing or replacing the parts involved. Our engineers can give you a quote for any repair work there and then, on the same day, so you know exactly where you stand. If a repair isn’t worth it, read should I repair or replace my boiler?

The price depends on your boiler, where it’s installed and whether any parts need replacing, such as a nozzle. We’ll give you a clear price before any work starts, with no hidden costs, and we’ll always agree any extra work with you first. Our guide to boiler service prices in Bristol explains what affects the cost.
